STAR Athlete Progression Descriptions
Our STAR Athlete Progression outlines the path swimmers take as they build skills, gain experience, and advance through our program. Each stage is designed to support age-appropriate development and long-term success in and out of the pool.
Rising STARS (No USA Swimming Registration)
- 4-7 years old
- Attends 1-2 Practices per week
- Is self-sufficient in the water and has some swimming ability
- Is comfortable working in a group setting and able to follow basic instructions

Super Novas (USA Swimming Registration Optional)
- 5-10 years old
- Commits to 1-3 Practices per week
- May choose to swim STAR hosted or suitable local swim meets
- Can swim 25 yards of Freestyle and Backstroke
Solar Flares (USA Swimming Registration Recommended)
- 7-10 years old
- Commits to 2-4 Practices per week
- Competes in STAR hosted and local swim meets and season end championship meet
- Can swim a legal 50 of all 4 strokes
SwimFit (USA Swimming Registration Optional)
- 11 Years & Older
- Commits to 2-4 Practices per week
- May compete in STAR hosted and local swim meets
- Can swim Freestyle and Backstroke and has a basic understanding of Breaststroke and Butterfly
- Focuses on Stroke Improvement and Conditioning
Junior 1 (USA Swimming Registration Recommended)
- 11-13 years old
- Commits to 2-4 Practices per week & may sign up for Parisi Strength Training
- Competes in STAR hosted meets and end of season championship meet
- Knowledge of all 4 strokes but still may need development in some areas.
Junior 2 (USA Swimming Registration Required)
- 11-13 years old
- Commits to 4-6 Practices per week & attends Parisi Strength Training
- Competes in STAR hosted and travel meets and season end championship meet
- Can swim a legal 200 IM and is proficient in all 4 strokes
Senior 1 (USA Swimming Registration Recommended)
- 13-19 years old
- Commits to 2-4 practices per week & may sign up for Parisi Strength Training
- Option to compete in local meets and season end championship meet
- Can swim a legal 200IM and is proficient in all 4 strokes
Senior 2 (USA Swimming Registration Required)
- 13-19 years old
- Commits to 6+ practices per week & attends Parisi Strength Training
- Competes in meets as scheduled by coach and season end championship meet
- Can swim a legal 400 IM, is proficient in all 4 strokes and can complete interval based training sets
Homeschool Swim (No USA Swimming Registration)
- 5-19 years old
- Options for 1 or 2 practices a week
- Can swim 25 yards of Freestyle and Backstroke
- Focuses on stroke development and age appropriate conditioning
STAR Aquatics Registration Options
- Competitive - Competitive registered swimmers plan to register with USA Swimming to compete in a wider variety of meets, as well as have the potential to qualify for championship meets.
- Seasonal - Seasonal registered swimmers have the option to enter and compete in a few smaller local meets over the course of the season.
**Annual Registration Fee for Competitive Swimmers - $175 (Includes – STAR Cap, Car Magnet, Team Suit, Team Shirt and AAU Membership & Insurance). Once registered with STAR, you have the option to register with USA Swimming and will pay them directly (Premium - $82 and Flex $40). Flex Membership is only an option for 12 & Under swimmers and allows them to compete in only two (2) meets below the LSC Championship level.
**Annual Registration Fee for Seasonal Swimmers - $85 (Includes – STAR Cap, Car Magnet, Team Shirt and AAU Membership Insurance). Swimmers may only participate in AAU meets unless they decide to upgrade to USA Swimming.
**Outreach Registration Fee – $35 (Available to anyone with Free or Reduced Lunch and Includes – STAR Cap, Car Magnet, Team Shirt and AAU Membership & Insurance)
**Discounts – To help offset the cost for larger families, STAR offers a $10 discount for each paying swimmer for families with multiple Competitive or Seasonal participants with the 4th swimmer's monthly dues FREE!! (Must have 2 or more swimmers to qualify)
To request family discount, you must notify us via the Change Form.
Meet Fees: Fees for meets are a separate charge, so swimmers are only charged for meets for which they register. Meet fees include those charged by the host club for each swimmer in the meet (ie. - Facility Fee, LSC Travel Fund Fee and sometimes a Heat Sheet Fee if Heat Sheet is electronic) and the event fees (per charge fee for each individual event -- STAR covers the cost for relays). Meet fees are charged on the 1st of the month after registration is due for the meet. Swimmers will be charged for the meets for which they are registered at the registration deadline, even if they do not swim, since STAR must pay the host team, GAC and NCS.
